Deklomp
Located in the heart of the old town,
De Klomp attracts a more mature
clientèle than many of the bars in Nice. It can hold between 250-300
customers of varied ages (25-40), most of whom are French, although many
Americans and Australians are attracted.
De Klomp opened 14 years ago but
has been recently refurbished to create
a drinking pit atmosphere which is added to by the low level of
lighting. The bar can become busy, especially at weekends when it can be
3 people deep all around the spacious bar area. Don't let this put you
off however, as there are also waiters who will bring your drink to you
without you moving an inch.
It is without doubt that the main
attraction of this pub is the wide
range of draught beers from all over the world- 18 to be exact. You can
stick to the usual beers if you are not feeling adventurous, but the
daring can try cherry, raspberry or peach flavoured beer or a
traditional English bitter not easily found in Nice, I can tell you!
Alternatively, after a long, hot day on the beach, why not try a
Weissbier which is very light and refreshing, or a Douglas Scotch bitter
which is a rich, full bodied, strong beer at 8,6% abv. De Klomp also
stocks over 100 bottled beers.
Added to the beers are all the usual spirits,
including 40 different
types of Irish and Scottish whiskies. The most popular of which are
Glenfiddich and Clan Campbell, while the Chivas Regal aged for 12 years
slips down your throat with ease. However the J&B at 15 years old is the
most mature whiskey available and is definitely one for the
connaisseurs.
If you fancy going all the way, however,
why not try one of the
cocktails? The marguerita is always a favourite, or why not try the De
Klomp Surprise which at only 50 Ffr will guarantee you have a good time,
and it changes everytime you have it.
All this alcohol can be tasted whilst
listening to one of the best jazz
bands in Nice headed by the famous bassist Jean Marc Joffet accompanied
by Alan Aspinarto (drums) and Francesco (trombone) after they have
finished teaching in local music schools and the beautiful voice of
Akram. These can be heard from Tuesday-Saturday with other local bands
taking over each Sunday and Monday. This is the place where musicians go
to listen to music.
De Klomp is open from 9:00pm until 2:30am each day and is situated at 6,
rue Mascoïnat, Vieux Nice.
